LA NOCHE EN BALDE

This body of work reveals, above all, an emotional approach to landscape.
A project that uses photographic collage and a free, intuitive artistic process as a vehicle to explore neglected, uncultivated rural areas, where what might be called peripheral botany grows: weeds and, above all, thistles and agaves—disconcerting elements that seem unnecessary, growing against the grain, without care or cultivation.
Lit only by the harsh glare of the camera’s flash, this work seeks reconciliation—with the environment and with ourselves—asserting the value and beauty of these peripheral, dark, untamed, idle, and wild places.

Drawing from an atmosphere and iconography I’ve worked with intermittently since the beginning of my practice, the series reflects some of my main photographic concerns in recent years:
a fascination with a “living”, hybrid, and organic kind of photography—often non-reproducible; the increasing intention to use the medium not merely as a container for images, but as an expressive protagonist and emotional conduit; the desire to stretch its possibilities, to play with formats and supports; to move beyond the visual sense as the sole mode of engagement with the work; to make the process visible; to transgress conventional ways of working with photography—letting myself be guided by an intuitive, amateur spirit—and to turn the medium’s fragility into a strength.
